Sweet Home Chicago (hi Oprah!)

THECOOLTV’s resident programming guru, Bobby Tarantino, (ok, VP Artist and Label Relations) happens to live amongst today’s hoopla of the Oprah taping. According to Bobby, “I’ve lived in downtown Chicago since the mid 80’s. Not since the very first Chicago Fest which morphed into Taste Of Chicago have I recalled Michigan Avenue closed for an event. Leave it to Oprah to make a statement. Black Eyed Peas perform on tonight’s taping. Should be rockin’!”

Even Chicago Mayor Richard Daley is going on record as being in favor of the high-production fervor.

Elsewhere, the local Fox affiliate has a tidy run-down of the re-routing of cars, buses and pedestrians, while Oprah.com touts Black Eyed Peas AND Jenifer Hudson. Everyone’s talking about how Oprah as “the icon” is what is single-handedly shutting down major thoroughfares in one of the country’s largest cities.

Yes: Oprah is, indeed, iconic. But interestingly enough, the draw of her season opener is music, artists America loves. The showcase is fabulous and Chicago as a venue couldn’t be a more spectactular backdrop. But at the end of the day, Oprah really loves music, just like the rest of us.
